NIKUJAGA - simmered meat and potatoes

NIKUJAGA means meat and potatoes in Japanese. This is a very popular home cooked dish for autumn and winter because it makes you feel warm and content. Like the way Australians make soups and stews using their favourite recipes at home...every Japanese mother makes NIKUJAGA at home with their own unique recipes. With my sauce, everybody can make this simlpe and traditional dish easily.

NIKUJAGA Recipe - serve 4 as a main dish
*4 medium size potatoes
*1 carrot
*1 brown onion
*100 g thinly sliced pork or beef
* 30g soya beens or green peas
* 200ml Soba Noodle Sauce
* 400ml water
* 1 tsp brown sugar

1: peal and cut potatos and carrots into rough cubes
2: thinly slice onion
3: stir-fry meat till cooked then add potatoes, carrots and onion.
4: pour Soba Noodle Sauce, water and brown sugar into the pan and cover.
Simmer on a medium heat for 20 mins - until potatoes are soft.
5: enjoy your homemade Japanese meal

I normally serve this dish with steamed rice. For extra spice, garnish with dried red chillies. Hmmm...this recipe makes me feel homesick.
