Caramalised pork on top of rice (Japanese name - Buta don) Recipe

I am from Hokkaido in Northern Japan. Hokkaido is renown in Japan and Asia as the place to go to if you want to eat delicious food. Buta don is one of the must-have dishes that people come to enjoy. This recipe takes only 15 minutes to make and is extremely yummy. Once you try it, I am sure it will become one of your regular dishes.

Ingredients*
400g pork loin – thinly sliced
1/2 onion - sliced
2 tbsp olive oil
2 cups cooked Japanese Rice (Sushi or Koshi rice)
Sauce
120ml SAORI Seaweed & Soya Japanese Sauce mixed thoroughly with 2 tbsp brown sugar
Garnish
4 tbsp spring onions - finely chopped

Method*
Put pork and onion in olive oil in a frying pan big enough to lay the pork pieces flat.
Fry the slices of pork on one side and turn them over and repeat.
When both sides are cooked, pour in the sauce mixture and cook on a low to medium heat. Keep turning the pork while cooking. When the sauce starts to thicken (about 10 mins), push/wipe the pork into the sauce. This will ensure the pork is evenly coated in the caramalised sauce.
Serve rice in a bowl and lay the pieces of pork and onion on top. Garnish with spring onions.

Hints
I always make too much so that I can make sandwiches with the leftovers the next day. Simply add lettuce and mayonnaise and you will have deliciously flavoured Japanese sandwiches!
